Twelve Months of Northern Ohio Herps in 2025 (Part 4)

A great looking Black Rat Snake that I helped across the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath on July 11th.

I found this backyard American Toad with more color than usual on July 13th.

A stealthy Common Snapping Turtle in the Ohio & Erie Canal.

Gray Treefrogs are my favorite frog. Here's a newly metamorphosed individual that I found in July 29th.

This Eastern Milk Snake was found near an abandoned barn on the first day of August. It is going through a shed cycle and therefore has milky blue eyes and dull coloration.

I found a fair number of frogs in early August, such as this young American Bullfrog on the 7th.

And this Green Frog too.

While hiking on the Buckeye Trail on August 16th, I saw this Spring Peeper resting on a leaf.

On a rainy night on August 19th I found some cool creatures while driving around, like this juvenile American Bullfrog.

And a Ringneck Snake, which may have been out hunting earthworms and amphibians brought out by the rain.

This hefty female Green Frog was out as well.

On August 29th this neat Ambystoma salamander was found in the wooded lot across the street from my house.

On September 1st I found this larval Two-lined Salamander in my backyard creek. Unlike Redback Salamanders, this species has an aquatic stage in its lifecycle.

A fine looking Eastern Fox Snake that I found on September 10th. This constrictor many eats small mammals and chipmunks were abundant at this location in Erie County.
